Please stick with us at this point; we’ll try not to make it sound too pretentious ...
We approach each project without any fixed style or ideology, but through a process of investigating, analysing, understanding and responding to the clients brief and site context, create inspiring and robust buildings which aim to stand the test of time and are a positive addition to their location.
Whilst we work across a range of ages of projects, including Listed Buildings, our approach generally is that of “contemporary contextual”, creating buildings that respond to the social and environmental context in which they sit, but also respond to modern life in the materials and construction.
Sustainability is also a key part of our approach, however this is not a “bolt-on”, after-thought or even as a “buzz word” label to add to projects, but an inherent fundamental part of projects. Whilst it is appreciated that not all projects can be Carbon Neutral and not all clients want large renewable, it is our belief that all projects should be as good as they can be. Orientation, daylighting, ventilation, thermal performance etc are all key elements that often get forgotten in the design process.
Creating quality homes
Housing projects are a key focus and speciality of Hunter Architects & Planners. It is suggested that housing quality is not about a particular external design style or fashion, but is about how the home performs and functions. Occupier comfort, building fabric efficiency, good daylighting, storage, sound insulation as well as future flexibility and adaptability should be incorporated for all houses, irrespective of any formal standards and can all be incorporated easily and cost effectively when considered at the early stages. Such homes will have on-going benefit to the occupiers’ quality of life, health and wellbeing as well as to the wider environment. The creation of quality homes that will stand the test of time and still be desirable and suitable for future generations is achievable with the right consideration.
